Living the Dream ~ Chocolate Cornet Time ~

Ever since I first laid eyes on the first few minutes of Lucky Star, I've wanted a chocolate cornet.  A couple weekends ago... I finally obtained one.

Yup.  Konata started it.  Of course it didn't help that I have a penchant for stuffing all things chocolate and pastry related into my mouth...  I always wanted a cornet since then but since I don't live in/around/near Japan I never thought I'd get one, but Fate decided to be nice and allowed my taste buds the pleasure of this pastry delight.

I found it in a Japanese grocery store that we had just discovered not too long ago.  As my eyes scanned the shelves for anything and everything, I almost missed it on the way to the check out.  With a turn of my head, I let out my usual loud excited gasp (it's an endearing character trait!) and grabbed one off the shelf.  It was so prim.  So perfect. So beautifully pristine.  I would not leave without it.  So to the check out we went with our armfuls snacks.  I was ready to tear into it... but I held myself back in order to save it for breakfast the next day.

THE NEXT DAY.

Breakfast time was upon us.  UCC coffee at the ready.  Camera in hand. This moment must be immortalized.  I sit the wrapped delicacy on the bed for its first photo.

Naughty little minx knows how to tempt me.  But the glare on that wrapper is making it hard for the camera to focus.... take it off.

Look at that luster.  Look at the shine.  It looks so soft.  So temptingly soft. My lips tremble for it.

I decide to start the quest at the 'head' of the cornet.

I turn it around.

Oh yes.  It is waiting for me.

I gently place it in my mouth fully expecting it to explode on my lap, but surprisingly the chocolate never budged like Konata's did.  The chocolate inside was a fluffy creme, like that of a fluff filled donut.  More of a bittersweet type of chocolate.  And the bread part is akin to a real croissant!  Surprisingly unexpected!  It's layered inside just like a croissant but it lacks the butter.

sorry for the fuzzy pic... I ate it all before I realized...

Both the creme and the bread work very well together.  It's a mild flavor experience in the sense that neither flavor is outstanding and there's no sugar to choke on... which is good for me... even though I adore and wish to inhale sugar.  A mouthful of this cornet and UCC coffee and I'm squeeing like Ayesha eating a muffin.

Enough innuendos!~  It's time for round 2!

My bf got a melon pan for his breakfast snack.  Melon bun go!

The only possible way I can think of to describe this bun is with the word 'mellow'.  It doesn't have any bold flavor and it's a bit hard to describe exactly what the flavor really is.  My bf describes it as a 'doughy' kind of taste which he found pleasurable.  The top is sticky.  The inside is dense and dry, and is in need of lubrication.  Much milk drank is required.  Very different, but he liked it.

And for those who are unfamiliar with UCC, then Evangelion failed with their scenes of UCC product placement and they will now be requiring more...  But at the risk of sounding hipster, I was drinking UCC before EVA was stuffing the backgrounds with it.

UCC is a smooth milk coffee drink.  The ratio of flavor is about 1/4 or 1/3 coffee to 2/3 or 3/4 milk.  The coffee flavor isn't very strong but it is definitely there being toned down with the milk.  It's delicious.  My bf doesn't like coffee at all but I got him to try a sip and now he loves this drink.  It goes down so easy~

Life is grand.

Sometimes.
